Righteous Pickles

At my friend Claire’s apartment the other night, I opened the fridge in search of a snack and at first sight, the snacking situation seemed dire.  I reached for the jar of McClure’s pickles, liking the packaging and thinking maybe a pickle would tide me over until dinner.

Ooooooh, these are good pickles.  Crunchy like a potato chip, these pickles live in a salty, garlicky brine with long red chiles. On the website, the McClure family suggests saving the brine for Bloody Mary’s and the chiles for cooking.  Duly noted.  At around $8 a jar, it’s reassuring to know I’m getting a little bang for my buck.

To buy your own jar of these incredible pickles, you can visit any of these stores: Murray’s Cheese, Formaggio Essex, Stinky Bklyn, Marlow and Sons, Bubby’s, Chelsea Market Baskets, or as a last resort, online at their site: www.mcclurespickles.com (they want you to support local shops and buy it there, rather than use shipping)

  2. These are my favorite bread and butter pickles. They are what grandma would have made: http://michaelbeyer.wordpress.com/2010/08/17/your-classic-bread-and-butter-pickles-2/
