For just a moment, let’s forget about the Wall St. bailout, and instead think about cupcakes. They’re so innocent, covered in sweet frosting, like a little cake wrapped up just for us. Consider the bakers, who wake up before sunrise and make all the cupcakes for us to eat. Now those are good, honest people.
It’s so nice, thinking about cupcakes.
This is one of my favorite cupcakes, and it’s not even chocolate. It’s a gluten-free carrot cake cupcake, which by definition I should hate. But the miracle bakers at Babycakes, the sweet, homey bakery in the Lower East Side, inject these cupcakes with serious love, full of delicious carroty-nutmegy-cinnamony-raisin flavor with a dash of perfect cream cheese-ish frosting. How they do it with vegan, gluten-free ingredients, I just don’t know.
Tomorrow, let’s all eat a cupcake.
Babycakes, 248 Broome St. in the LES. Soon to be opening in Los Angeles, with an outpost in West Hollywood. Visit website here.
